two questions-

what were these called?  I have 6 or 8 pair, and they're great, but very stiff.

what's the current wire you all are using for diy interconnects?

Thanks!

Man those are really old. I don't remember what I called them. They use nice wire but obviously they have no shielding, so they may pick up noise.

I will freely admit I am an old guy and thus not as prone to chasing the latest thing as I was in years past. I mostly use the kit cables we sold in the past that were made from a Teflon foam insulated coax and terminated with Switchcraft right angle RCA plugs. Because of their axial symmetry they have exceptionally good rejection of alternating magnet fields generated by power transformers. The Blue Jean cables are great for the money.

I've never tried to make anything exotic.  I think the most expensive cable I've used is Mogami W2497.  I know that Redco sells it by the foot and they also carry various other brands/types of cable (belden, canare, gotham).

A friend of mine who works for a telecom company gave me some really nice flexible double-shielded coax cable. He said he made his interconnects with it. I did the same and they turned out great. No noise. I used the inner shield for the neg and the outer shield as the drain. After making one pair he could not get any more of it as they swapped to a stiffer brand of cable. I found a quite nice substitute online, very cheap, and used a nice cover to dress them up a bit. There is no need to spend silly money on these things.

There was some really "stiff" wire measured here. Worked adequately:
