I need to adjust my skepticism. I did as suggested and tightened all the screws in my computer (which is a Hackintosh http://nofilmschool.com/build-a-hackintosh/ I put together). I was MISSING a screw in the middle of the motherboard, and half the screws that were there were at least 1/4 turn loose.

The ground loop problem has dropped off to a maskable level! I can't hear my computer whining away at 16khz while I'm not at it anymore to boot!

The ground loop is still annoying when the volume on Crack is past 1/2, which is well above a safe listening level for compressed music, it appears for piano pieces by Morton Feldman, but it's now an option for me to put the Radio Shack Ground Loop Isolator away for a moment.

Which brings up another question: is there a ground loop isolater that sounds OK? Monster makes one...http://www.amazon.com/Monster-MPC-ISM-201-XLN/dp/B0009RWKKM...but I read somewhere that it doesn't isolate as well and the person tossed it and went back to the Radio Shack one.

I'm still trying to gild my ears, but honestly, I didn't notice much difference between the GLI and the straight RCA cable. Maybe I'll try A/B'ing them when this song is over...uhhh, when the next song is over....

Everything can be reduced to sound.

Doesnt really matter what I or anyone else thought of the GLI when I/they used it.  If you cant hear a difference or the difference is not a negative, and it works for you, go with it.
