So I have a Quickie and S.E.X. and each has its own volume knob. What is the best configuration for maximum sound fidelity:

Quickie turned up higher than S.E.X. or S.E.X. turned up higher than Quickie?

Often asked, answered differently.  The real answer is you play with it to get the lowest noise.  Often it is with the preamp (Quickie) all or almost all the way up and the amp making the fine adjustments.

But seriously, it is however you like it best.

There is a nice writeup by Paul J in the technical forum called 'Signals, noise, and signal to noise ratio'.  It's a sticky near the top.
