I too have a Rochester and Watertown connection.  I went to SUNY Brockport 1973 - 1977.   I actually made it through my 1st semester without a hat or gloves (Looking back, how is that possible?).  The coldest day I ever remember was one January during that time period.

The wind-chill was something like -45 degrees.  It was in-between semesters and we went out for beer and donuts.  I remember taking a glove off for like 5 seconds to get a newspaper out of one of those old-style vending machines.  My hand almost froze off!

One of my friends was from Watertown - Antwerp to be exact.  I believe his father worked at the nearby Canadian border crossing.

I'm surprised how many Bottleheads have a Northern NY connection.

There are a ton of 'audiophiles' from NNY for some reason. Dont know if its the alcohol, and the long winters? A bunch of great audio companies there as well.

I started with Kodak back in 1980,  my company is still based there.

I remember my first trip to Rochester. It was 7 degrees out and snowing. A week later it had gone up to 8 and was still snowing...John

Good old Kodak! - I went to the Univ. of Rochester. I will say, though, Rochester got the shit for weather compared to Buffalo and Waterclown. Rain, overcast, crap on top of crap. I think at the time, the suicide rate in Rochester was the highest in the country. Not sure if that was true...

Eric,

That's why I had to leave -- the weather was so terrible so much of the time I honestly couldn't deal with it any longer.  Now of course Boulder is about the polar opposite and yet I find myself looking forward to and enjoying rainy and snowy days.  Go figure.

I actually really liked the area. I could almost survive the two seasons, winter and construction.  But being a native Californian the lack of sunshine definitely got to me. They report minutes of sunshine on the weather, not days....not a good sign.

Cheers,
Geary

Hey Eric,

Yeah, but you guys have some wild-ass electrical sttorms down there, which in recent years are few and far between for us, especially where we are -- only a couple of blocks east of the mountains.  On the other hand, being this close to the mountains means extremely low possibility of a tornado touching down -- those happen further out from town for the most part.

Deb

Looks the same here, only we got about three times as much!  Trees and branches down everywhere.  A friend of ours lost power on Friday and has been told it won't be back until the 29th!  The irony is that he ordered a generator 2months ago but just prior to delivery it got diverted for hurricane Sandy relief!

Merry Christmas to all.
