Thanks for reading

I have spent a few evenings of sheer enjoyment putting together the crack.  The resistance and voltage checks were a bit of a let down.  When I tested resistance with terminal 12 as the ground I got nutty figures, with the excepts of the tests for terminals 13, 14 & 20.  On the other hand, when I used terminal 11 as the ground, I got resistance measurements that were in the ballpark.

Fast forward to the voltage test.  Both tubes glowed fine and the fuse didn't blow.  Started testing and got readings of 236 for terminals 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5.  Stopped at this point as something was obviously up the creek.

What have I done wrong?

To make matters worse, I melted a 220 uF cap in the process of trying to trouble shoot and wrecked a 270K resister in trying to get it off.

Help!

A ground problem will screw up everything.  Look at the post linked below.  It traces the grounding circuit from the reference to every point that should be grounded.  If you start with a good ground at terminal 3 and lose it somewhere along the way you know which wire isn't being a wire.  Touch up the solder joints on both ends of the wire.

Forgot to mention - I have a 240V transformer.

Is the black wire leaving terminal 12 or 11?  If it's connected to terminal 11, you won't end up with positive results.

Drop us an e-mail (replacementparts (At) bottlehead (dot) com ) and we can mail you a new cap and resistor.

Thanks Paul - You are a legend and I am an idiot!

Grainger - I will still be doing that ground check.  Thanks very much for your time.

Cheers

Nathan

Oh hardly, I've only made that mistake enough times to recognize the symptoms.
