Dremel Vise

My new favorite workshop tool is the Dremel Multi-vise I just got.  I've been using a little Radio Shack "3rd hand" that has the magnifying glass with two adjustable alligator clips, and it works for some items, but for holding something securely like a small circuit board, I really love this little vise.  it has semi soft pads that hold the board in place without threat of harming the board.  Thumbs up on this item.

How large of an item will it hold?

One side of the vise pad is fixed.  The other side slides on a square steel rod that is easily 10" in length so probably around 8" for the item being worked on.  I'll measure tonight
One cool feature that I haven't used yet is that it also comes with a bracket that you can mount your Dremel tool to....so the dremel tool can be securely mounted/stationary so you can use it in that manner too.
Portability is also nice;  I have two different vises on my workbench in the garage but the temp literally climbs above 125 degrees out there this time of year so this vise can be moved inside the house during these times.

wow, that would be a contender on my list. most of this stuff just fails when it comes to capacity. just think, working on Quickie with both hands for once!

Well, I was pretty close on my estimate.  there is a little rubber cap on the end of the rod and if you remove that, you can get the two plates spread to as much as 7.5".  The vise is on a ballhead that you can rotate any direction so you can have the plates aligned normally (vertical alignment) like a vise would be on a workbench or you can tilt the plates to nearly horizontal.  There might be something more versatile but I haven't seen it if there is something better....I find this will fit almost any of my needs.  And it was $35!

I'm not having luck posting photos.  Apparently they are too large.  I don't see any photo size rule in the forum rules....is there a quick size recommendation?

The one above is fully closed.  The next ones show fully open (although the rubber tip can come off to expose more rod for more width) and then an extreme angle and lastly a cb in the vise.

  Ok, so the vise is great, but it is the benchtop that I really jealous of!

That was an example of listening to my wife, in this case a win win.  I hated it in the showroom.  Loved it once installed.  So I won by listening to her (always a win) and ended up with cool countertop

I finished the last of the 4 circuit boards tonight on my Eros phono build, and I absolutely love this little vise.  Whether I was installing or soldering, it made the job so much easier.  Being on a ballhead, it made every part of the job easy.  Especially soldering.  You can swing the board around quickly and reposition the board easily for the perfect access to every point to be soldered.  Best $30+ I've spent for this purpose.

AZR,   I notice that you list a Technics SL1200-M3D. They had a bunch of models, but I don't recall what that one was. I know, off topic.

The life of this technics turntable series was so long, with quite a few models, that I recall the primary change to the model I have was a "reset" button for the pitch slider.  Beyond that, I think it was pretty typical of what I've seen before and after.  Someday I'd like to upgrade, but with the sumiko, it's pretty sweet as is.  To my ear.  And hopefully the Eros addition (hopefully in just a few days) will satisfy all upgrade cravings for a while.
