We're slowly redecorating our living room. I made a blunder yesterday trying to refinish an ancient, beat up coffee table that I inherited from my mom and sanded thru some paper thin veneer. The table was something Ikea might have sold if they were around in the 50s, so it was not a great loss.
I have also recently acquired some used leather couches on the cheap for this redo and refinished them myself, so I felt like I could splurge a bit on a new coffee table. In looking around I found a super nice guy in Port Townsend named Wayne who has a company called Down-home Woods. He finds recycled and removal wood and kiln dries and cuts it himself. He primarily makes his money from the live edge wood fad and has hundreds of really nice live edge counter and table tops in maple, walnut and lots of other woods. But he also has some nice fully cut pieces, among which was this lovely black walnut and bookmatched quilted maple tabletop.

Think I'm gonna make some maple legs for it - which means I get to poke around a few more of the awesome wood suppliers in the area. This really is an amazing place to live if you love beautifully figured wood.
