Hey it's about time for another mid Atlantic meet. We seem to have let it slip a little so I am seeing if there is any interest in a get together to " run what you brung " I am working on speakers as usual and have a new digital class d amp.
So who wants to come and show off their toys?
-
I am in Faralya, Turkey right now walking some of the Lycean Way. I get back on May 6 so any date after that is fine with me. I will bring down the cat vomit special 6e5p / 6c33.
If I can fit them in I will try to bring my bi-amp version of Roscoe's speakers.
By the way, Turkey is great and the people are very friendly.

I've got a BeePre and a Bottlehead DAC I could bring.
Oh, and does anybody have a 300B amp of any sort? I've got some 300Bs that didn't seem to work in the BeePre, even though they're brand new. So I'd like to test them in some other amp.
-
No 300b amp but I would like to hear the DAC.

Hi everyone,
Any idea what state this might be in? It would be cool to meet some other bottleheaders in the northeast :)
Dave
-
Sterling, Virginia. Not too far from Dulles airport.
Contact Steve for directions.
Ray
-
Nice, only about 4 hours from here! So what do people usually do at these, bring their equipment and listen to music on different gear? Any idea on a timeframe?
Dave
-
Take a look at

for blogs of earlier meets.
Steve will decide on a date.
Where are you coming from?
Ray
-
looks pretty cool. How did the light bulb tube amp sound? I'm from North Jersey, near NYC.
Dave
-
The light bulb amp sounded very good when it was working. Ray makes some excellent sounding and scary looking amps. He will invariably bring something really interesting with him to these meets.
-
Steve, how about you pick a date after May 6 that we can put on our calendars.
Ray
-
Let's go for May 30/31 whichever day is most convenient for everyone. I can do either day.
-
Should be a fun time! The wife is having a baby right around there, so i'll be in the hospital with her ::) Enjoy!
-
I suspect that you will be having the fun! Best of luck and congratulations.
-
Thanks 8)
-
How about we go with Saturday May 30.
ray
-
That will work for me.
-
Unfortunately I can't make May 30th, but I look forward to the next meet.
-
Dave, could you make the 31st on the Sunday? I think we would all like to hear the DAC.
ray
-
Yes, I should be able to make Sunday, the 31st. Pending the permission of she who must be obeyed, of course.
-
Steve, will the Sunday work for you?
ray
-
I am hoping to make the meet. I have a BH DAC as well...John
-
Either day will be fine with me. Let's try to make a decision this weekend
-
I am fine with either day as well. Let's provisionally go with Sunday so that Dave can come. And John, it will be great to see you again. Please bring your BHead DAC in case Dave can't come.
I will be bringing my 6C33C amp, my version of Roscoe's speakers with a PLLXO and hopefully a line array with the $1 Parts Express speakers from over 10 years ago. Hopefully it will all fit in.
ray
-
I'm under the weather, so I won't be able to make it this weekend. If John can't bring his DAC, you could drop by on your way down and borrow mine, Ray.
-
John and I are driving down together and he is bringing his DAC so we should be fine. I hope you recover soon.
ray
-
Have we decided, Saturday or Sunday?...John
-
Sunday. We changed from Saturday so that Dave could attend.

Have we decided, Saturday or Sunday?...John
Sunday it is. However It looks like I'll just be hosting as I haven't managed to complete any of my projects this time. My wife is still struggling with her illness and work has been hugely demanding. I'll try to get something done tomorrow but no promises. We will need a linestage and amp as mine are down for the count at present. Starting at 9.00 ish as usual. See you all there
-
I am bringing my Bottle Head DAC but my music server is not portable. If someone has a laptop or something with tunes on it. Otherwise I will bring a CD player and SPDIF cable, I have no optical.
I was hoping to have the latest version of my 300B amps ready but I seem to have blown a 3 legged fuse or two. I can bring the SR-45. If more power is needed I have an F5...John
-
I will bring my netbook with JRiver loaded on it. I will also bring my ODAC, PLLXO, 6C33C amp, my version of Roscoe's speakers and a line arrray if I can fit them in. We should be able to substitute the B'head DAC for the ODAC.
If anybody wants to bring their music, put it on a usb stick. Jriver can be used to control the volume.
John, I forgot that Steve is starting the meet earlier these days. Could we meet at 8 am instead of 9 am. If I don't hear from you, I will still presume 9 am.

What good timing... I haven't checked the board in months and I happen to be free tomorrow morning. I'll bring a recording I made of my daughter's high school wind ensemble. I will bring the raw files and those that have some compression and EQ for comparison.
-
Looking forward to see everyone again. The time just goes by so quickly.
I will bring the commercial remote pre-amp that I brought last time. I will bring some vintage speakers as well as the Climax. I will also bring the DAC. Depending on what space is left in the car, I can see what else will fit. I maybe able to bring some headphones and amps if anyone is interested and if I have any room left in the car.
-
It was a very interesting meet and thanks again to Steve for hosting. The big surprise was the foam speakers driven by Dayton exciters.

We will try to hold our next meet in early October.

Wow, looks like fun!

Wow, looks like fun!
It is. You should come out some time. :)
-
It was fun, sorry about the DAC, It wasn't till we tried it that I remembered that the manual has procedures to load the driver to Windows and of course I didn't bring it with me, it is plug and play on my server.
Ray's fine 6C33 amp did all the heavy lifting and drove anything thrown at it with finesse. My 300B amps did not make it and if they had it may have been the straw that broke the Cooper's back ;)
Thanks to Steve for hosting and Ray for driving...John

Wow, looks like fun!
Paul has made it to one of our meets... no pressure.
-
And it was a LOT of fun - great group of people, too! Reminded me of the old VALVE days - amazing that's actually like 20 years ago.
-
I'm glad things worked out and I was able to come for a couple of hours. Nice to see everyone again. I'm sorry I missed the foam panels... now I'm interested to try them out. Thanks for indulging me and listening to my daughter's high school wind ensemble - at least they are one of the top high school bands in the state. :-)
As I mentioned, I only listened to the recordings on my headphones so listening with real speakers in a big room highlighted the differences in the mic placement. Next I got to figure out the "mastering" process. The recordings were so quiet that we had to turn up the pre-amp all the way. Perhaps we are so used to the "loudness wars" that anything that doesn't have a lot of compression sounds too quiet.

Perhaps you should do a revisit of your roots some time and you would probably have a lot of fun.
Here is your challenge - the best exciter based speaker. Of course it will need an amp to drive it. Let's go with the 6AS7 as output tube, no limit to quantity.
You go girl. http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=you+go+girl (http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=you+go+girl) or if you want to get the full effect - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2xZEJvDlOlg (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2xZEJvDlOlg) Yes, it's not really on topic, but I have found it that Aussie series to be hilarious.

I've had to restrain myself from getting too excited about these exciters... I'm tempted to buy 10 of them so I can compare panels with 1 exciter to 4 exciters. But then, the cost begins to add up quickly. Start with two, start with two, start with two...
-
I always thought they should go under your listening chair. Or maybe that was another device. These do sound interesting.
-
My understanding is a "transducer" attaches to the chair and doesn't actually make noise while an "exciter" vibrates the surface making noise.
