What clearance is generally required between the top plate & the bottom of the base of a sex amp with the c4s expansion?

Thanks

I'm building my s.e.x. amp in a base that is 2-1/2" tall, so a little less for the inside clearance.  is that what you want to know?  All the stock BH bases are 3.5" tall, not including feet.

On the S.E.X., I think you'll find that it is the plate chokes, which mount on the underside, which will dictate the minimum depth for the base.  At least I don't recall anything hanging any lower, C4S included.  IIRC, the plate chokes are just shy of 1-3/4" deep, so I believe a couple of inches of depth will do as a bare minimum.

Of course, this assumes a stock build; swap out a bunch of caps for gigantic film types, and all bets are off.  Same for Magnequest plate chokes---I have no idea how far they may hang down.

Thanks, guys

I'm putting together a small living room system & am thinking about installing a dac in the same enclosure as the amp. I don't want the base to get too high so building the case a bit longer to accomodate the dac may be my best option.

Things could get a bit crowded in there and in terms of electrical noise, temperature and such, inside may not be the best place for a dac.

One thing I considered doing was mounting my HRT musicstreamer II + on the back of the s.e.x. -- it's small enough and I believe that it should work ok.  A really decent dac for the money too.
