Anybody ever tried a combo quickie/t-amp, all battery power driven like a redwine audio setup? Got a couple t-amps lying around, 12v batteries. Next project? Sounds like fun :)

Yep - I have a modded Winsome Labs Mouse that I paired up with the Quickie. Thats were the addiction started! Quickie is a gateway drug. I realized quite quickly (pun intended) that the tube pre-amp concept was a winner. It pushed my 50wpc t-amp to new heights, but also revealed its weakness (underpowered). Hence, now I am 500wpc on the amp end of things. Did I like the t-amp? Yes, very much so. Will I go back. No.

Hah 500WPC that's a lot! But I suppose you're driving maggies, so that makes sense.

I've got some linkwitz pluto clones I built which require 4 channels. Running the tweeter section of 125WPC @ 8ohm loads and they only need 30W. They sound really really, good, but I think I've got the bug and I'm going back to the drawing board.

Does the quickie burn through the batteries?

yep - the quickie sound will change with time, but honestly, I was modding the crap out of it so its hard to say what changed over time. If you dont need much power, the t-amps are very cheap and fantastic sounding and many DIY projects out there. I tried building one from 41hz.com but the documentation is horrible and it didnt end up working.

Seriously? Any thing is possible but that remains as hard to understand.
Those are simpler to assemble than a 4 play.. a much simpler :-)
Erm.. Try again?

here are some pics of the board - It was challenging!  - The most difficult part of building a working kit is figuring out why it doesnt work! I just didnt have the patience or expertise to figure out what went wrong. I will sell it to you cheap though!

Hmm, which amp is that? :D It's missing some caps, maybe that's why it doesn't work? lol.

Just teasing, don't take offense. Obviously you know enough to to put all the parts in the right place ;)

I run my Quickie into a Red Wine Audio Signature 15.  The two units complement each other well.  I find that the Quickie improves the midrange in a pleasing way.

interesting observation with the red wine kit. - I would have to agree that the Quickie does tend to 'flesh out' the mids in a very realistic way. What was most dramatic with my Quickie t-amp combo was the sense that everything was more 'robust' and powerful. It was as if the signal was going directly, unfiltered, to the bowels of the chip, and the power was let loose. The amp was able to breath. I could clip it much easier, in fact, with movies with explosive sound tracts it would clip quite a bit!
