here's a taste, waiting on a family member to return my good camera to take more photos and some under the hood shots,
I must say, this circuit Has been worth every upgrade, I used to be into High wattage solid state...(not the cheap kind either) and IMHO Low wattage SET amps, (specifically BH)with proper speakers  blows them out of the water!!!!!!

Coltrane,

Nice going!  I also can appreciate this as yet another data point in favor of the idea that better parts can and do make an audible difference.

Now you have to get that FP III going :-).

I'm a little jealous of the glowing-ness coming from those mesh plate 2a3's!

Ah, the didn't mention the EmMLs :-).

Coltrane, if you could, when you have a minute, can you explain to me where and how you mounted the ps chokes?

Thanks,

Jim

First, by PA I meant power amp , not the more commonly used meaning Public address amp.
Secondly, the tubes are ceramic based Sophia Electrics the center tube is a psvane with a cooler/damper .
As for the power supply chokes I removed the power supply resistors put in two leads on each side with gold plated-solid copper male High voltage rated connectors. Then I put inline female connectors of the same type on the leads of the chokes. Then mounted them side ways on the inside of the walnut base, (this way I can remove the top plate by disconnecting the chokes). they are pretty close to the O.P.Ts but there is no audible hum. The amount of hum is even below what my gear can measure... except when I turn on the over head light(damn old house wiring) then there is a slight hum. I do however like listening to music with the lights off anyways so its not that big of a deal.
I am in heaven... and it will even be better when the EFP-III is done!!!!!  :D

Hi Coltrane,

That's exactly what I was going to do with the chokes -- use connectors and mount them to the iside of the box.  I was mostly interested in where inside the box you mounted them so they ddidn't pick up or induce any hum, so thanks for that.

Good stuff and glad to hear that you're enjoying the amp so much.

Happy listening...

in my case no audible Hum, I can't vouch for in how it will work in your system, but there is no audible hum in my setup, listening to my Stereo copy of "A Whiter Shade of Pale" and all I can say is wow... I have had this record for years and its been a bit overplayed, yet it sounds better than it did when I unwrapped it years ago...
