Quickie noise
on:

I tightened the input/output jacks and now I get a big uuuuuuungh, an annoying sound, when everything's switched on. So loud I can't hear any music.

Problem solved. One of the tubes was bad. Glad I bought a few of those Mullard's.

It might just be corroded tube pins or a poor socket connection. Always worth checking!

Plugging in and out the tube several times can clean a bit the pins.

Also, as noted elsewhere on the forum, plunging in and out of a "magic eraser" type cleaning pad works.
