Hi everybody,

I am happy that I recieved the speedball upgrade last week. Yesterday I installed and works at the begining, but I noticed that only the right channel was working also the volume was too low. I checked and I found one of the capasitors a little loose. I try again and nothing came out.... the tubes did not glow... my heart almos stoped.... I went to sleep was almost midnite... this morning I checked all the connection again and I found that I missplaced the little resistor (237ohm resistor) from small plate to the big plate...now I corrected this mistake... I tried again and Nothing..... my heart stop agan.... I turnded and I found out that only one little led is on in the big plate of the speedball... only that let from my beutiful crack... my speedball dream is in hold... please any help? should I go back to the regular crack? and forget the speedball? my readings are really high from the normal:

terminal 1.                        215.6 v   terminal 4.           217v     terminal 8.      0 v
           2.                         217        terminal 5.          215        terminal 9.      2.23
           3.                          0          terminal 6.           0          terminal 10.     2.228

Please, can somebody help me? I checked the wires and everything is correct (three times)
thanks,
Yashin

Yashin,

If the tubes do not light that is a big problem but easy to fix.  By big, I mean it keeps everything else from working.

On the large tube you should have about 6.3V AC measured on tube pins 7 and 8.  Measure between these two, they are easy to find they have the twisted wires on them.

On the other tube you measure from tube pins 4 or 5 to pin 9.

If you don't have the voltage in both places you won't get sound out.

Not sure if this is your problem or not, but often when the LEDs are not all glowing, it can mean that you got some of the small transistors in the wrong places -- there are two types and they are not interchangeable between the driver and output tube circuit boards.  So, first thing would be to go and make sure the correct transistors are in the right places and that all the oorientations are corrrect.

DDon't worry, you'll get it all figured out and then you'll be very glad  you did.

HTH,

Jim

Good point Jim.  I have been there and done that myself.

If the heater voltages prove out then you need to check the circuit board.  I forgot to solder one transistor lead in my first C4S build.  Then verify the connections between the board and the circuit.  When you do this it is best to have someone else with you, if you look at it too long you can't see mistakes.

Once you check the boards for missed solder, and bridged solder, checked the interconnects that just about covers the scope of a C4S installation.

I have some improvements. My crack fired up. The tubes glow I have sound in both channels but.
 1. Just the left channels is sounding fine. The right channel is working but its volumen is really low I can't almost hear it.
 2. in the one of the C4 (A) only one led is working on the C4 (B) both are working but their not litting big like others
 3. In the big plate 3 of the 4 leds are working the other in the top (label 2nd is not glowing)
 4. On the 9 pin socket the led from A3 to center is not glowing. However, the tube is working.

Thank you for your help. So far, I found that one of the wire from the transformer was loose.
Please, any other idea how fix the rest?
Thanks again.
Yashin

For the LEDs that do not glow at all verify that the "silver end" is as instructed.

Which channel is at very low volume, the A channel?  If so the LED from A3 not glowing indicates that this half of the tube is not on.  It is likely connected to the C4S where only one LED is working, as in 2 above.

Yes is channel A I gues! Unfortunatelly I tried to take out the led and I ruined (broken) that led! Now, I have to wait and other some extras leds from Bottlehead.... I double check the connection and everything seens to be fine I'll wait until the new leds arrive and keep you posted.
thank you everyone for your help.... I am not done, but I will...

She is the Queen.  A title justly deserved.
