Solder Diameter
on:
March 08, 2013, 12:37:48 PM
Hello all,
I will soon be acquiring a Sex kit and am in the process of amassing the necessary tools for completion. Is there a preferred solder diameter that is best chosen for this type work?
Thank you.
Michael

It is often personal preference. I prefer small diameter solder. Since it is sold by weight, it wouldn't make much difference in price.

I hope you mean .031". The other (.31) would be way too thick for electronic work.

Yes, I meant .031. Thanks for clarifying though.

I have the Crack on order and also trying to amass my tools. What type of core flux do you recommend? No-clean, RA, or RMA?
I have also chosen to go with 63/37. Is this a good choice?

I prefer a small diameter solder. That allows putting as much or little solder on at a time as I want.
Good electronic solder has flux in it. Whatever type is in the solder you chose will be fine. I have never known what flux was in the solder I used.
It is my habit to clean the tip before and after every solder joint. This keeps the tip clean.
Good luck!
