I installed the sweetest whisper on my foreplay 2. I used the 33k resistor on it but the gain is quite about lower. Is there another risistor value lower than 33k that I can use? Jan Olsn

If you wire the switch, with no extra resistor, as a potentiometer then you will get about 10dB more gain, the same as any other (e.g. the original) potentiometer. It will then have a 15K input impedance, which is low for some gear but fine for most.

Paul is saying that it won't matter for most sources but you might have the source that is the exception.  If you can find the output voltage and current limit of the output we might be able to answer the question without any maybes.
