Transportable Crack?

Hey all,

Im sure there's a joke to be made about my thread title, but I wanted to learn if anyone has any experience or ideas on how to turn my stock Crack+Speedball amp into something I can pack in a case and take with me on the road. I split my time between home and driving to and staying at hotels.

Is there a plastic project enclosure that would be tougher than the wood base while still providing enough ventilation for the heatsinks from the CCS and the immense heat generated from the 6080?

Get a Pelican case. I used to carry a Sex amp around in one, with the stock base. You will need to take the tubes off so that the case presses the power transformer down so that everything stays in place. Works pretty well.

Similar to Xcortes suggestion and more economical, I have used for other equipment an inexpensive plastic fishing tackle box or tool box with some packing foam cut to fit the Crack. Then cut a slot in the foam to place the tubes during travel.

Have a look at how we put the Tode guitar amp together.  Something similar could be done for a "Road Crack".

Hammond makes boxes the size of the Crack, and also perforated chassis covers to fit the same size enclosures. You'd have to either remove the cover to access the controls and jack, or move them to the front panel, but a carry handle on top of the cover would make it eminently portable. A Bainbridge Island lunchbox?

My company was throwing out this case several years ago, so I picked it from the garbage since it sized well for hauling vinyl. The Crack also snuggly fits inside with room for a small DAC, tubes, etc. I used it for a recent head-fi meet. But probably not all that cheap is purchased new.

Actually you can on occasion pick up cheap but quite functional aluminum carrying cases like that at Lowes or Home Depot - or at least I have in the past. I bought three for carrying headphones, tools, small gear, etc. to shows. They have held up pretty well over the years.

All of these options are brilliant! This is a super helpful thread as I built my Crack a couple months ago but haven't been able to use it much as I've been on the road.

Does anyone know of any project enclosure that the top plate would fit into? Then placing in a Pelican like case...
