Did anybody try Crack & Speedball with AKG K701?

K701 has a bit low impedance of 62Ohms. That with 160uF
coupling capacitor gives a bit high cut off of 16Hz.

TIA,

Tony

A 16Hz cutoff is plenty low. The problem in these situations with Crack and lower impedance headphones is not the bass extension, it's the less than optimal impedance match that creates a softer, looser bass. I'd suggest using a 5998 tube in place of the 6080 to get the Crack output impedance down a bit lower than stock. That should help a bit.

I tried the stock Crack with my 701's and Doc's right. Not an ideal match. Actually, I've tried them on a number of tube amps and their inefficiency plus the lowish impedance seems to require a pretty hefty amp. The Melos preamp/headamp and the Singlepower XLR-SDS make them sound pretty darn good but in the end, they just weren't my cup of tea.
Real comfy though.
