I would like to replace the 100uF 450V power supply caps in the S.E.X. 2.1 with new electrylic caps. Is it OK to replace them with 120uF or 150uF caps? There are some nice new(?) Nichicon UCY and LGW caps with high ripple current ratings (the UCY 120uF 450V is rated 0.93A ripple, and the LGW 150uF 450V is rated 1.31A). I also have 100uF 500V CDE 380LX caps (1.1A ripple) but they measure 84uF.

At the same time, I will also be replacing the 22uF 450V Cd_psu with Mundorf EVO aluminum oil caps.

More capacitance isn't a problem there, put in whatever fits!  The ripple current on each 100uF/450V cap is tiny, like 4mA p-p. 

If you have the C4S upgrade, the 22uF/450V cap will be nearly inaudible.  I have also run the C4S board right off the 100uF/450V cap and removed the 22uF/450V cap and 8.2K resistor on each channel.  This would give you more space for the replacement of the 100uF/450V cap (like a 470uF/450V for each channel).

ah, very cool. Yes, I already have the C4S installed. I guess it's not worth using up the 22uF Mondorfs here then.

Since I already have these parts, do you think I can parallel LGW 150uF 450V with the UCY 120uF 450V? These will nicely fit together because the first is a snap-in and the second is a radial so they can mount at 90 degree on the same terminals. Or do you not recommend mixing types when paralleling caps?

I'd just use whichever is easier to mount.

Maybe another option to use the Mundorf.
I think of bypassing the 100uf 450v with the 22uf mundorf film capacitor.
And if you need the space. Remove last cap as PB suggested.

How did this end up?

I'll bypass the 100uf cap with a big film cap and need the extra space.

@PB. How do i best connect the C4S/choke/100uf cap without the 8.2K / 22uf capacitor in S3X?
I thought of just attaching the C4S to 7U and 21U directly?

You can either do that or replace the 8.2K resistor with a jumper.

That's what i thought. Will report back. Did C4S yesterday (happy with that). Will do the input next (shunt/series stepped copy from Mainline) and start on the powersupply after that (E-choke/film cap). And forgot the capacitors (both parafeed and interstage) somewhere in between. So, need a lot of space in the small S3X.
