new Mac Mini USB3 problem

Did the problem with newer Mac mini not working with the BHDAC get resolved?
I've been using toslink and wanted to try USB. I found the threads talking about the problem, but didn't see if there was a resolution.

Also, is there any firmware updates that needs to be done? Mine was a first run BHDAC.

I believe that Apple addressed this issue in an operating system update some time ago.

is there anyone here that can give me a link to the resolution by Apple to this issue?
My 2016 Mac mini sees the BHDAC, but as soon as I try to play something it disappears.
