We're pulling the last minute things together for our 2019 run at the Bonneville Motorcycle Speed Trials. This year I will be teaming up with bottleheads Michael Dunnigan and Toby Patton. Our team, along with our buds from across the water at Vintage Saltworks Racing, will be filmed by documentarist Steve Keller of Differential Films. We'll be running Honda, Benelli and Yamaha bikes in classic 250cc and 350cc classes. Due to an obscure incompatibility of parts discovered too late I will be running my second motor rather than this year's new new motor. This bumps the bike into a class where it is pretty seriously outgunned. Thus I may not be in the running to break any records but a personal one. There will be much fun to be had anyway. I will be trying out nitrous oxide injection, experimenting with lots of new stuff and taking lots of notes, and hanging out with a community of friends I like as much as all of you great bottleheads. We'll be back in September, at which time we'll begin our move in to our cool new office/warehouse space in Poulsbo.

I just noticed the "Bottlehead Racing Division" emblem on the gas tank. Looks cool. Nice touch!

cheers, Derek

That's a very classy looking build. Noticing your small front wheel fairing, are you allowed a small domed cover over your instruments and headstocks? Unless you know they are absolutely right for top-end power, there may be potential for improvement using different tapers and lengths of the megaphones. Honda works usually used a very small reverse cone on the end, more of a lip than a cone really. Good luck to the 3 of you and look forward to seeing you on film.

It sure looks like a lot of love has gone into that bike!  The term "classic" and seeing all of that shiny metal sure makes a visual statement!  Good luck and be safe!

We're still on the road home, but I wanted to take time to post the best minute I spent at the best week of the year - on the bottle in the timed mile at the Bonneville Motorcycle Speed Trials -

Hey Doc,

I was just in the Portland area and saw this; thought you might get a kick out of it.

It's part of a collection of vintage motorcycles and cars in a Honda dealership (Beaverton Honda, SW Canyon Rd, Beaverton, OR).
