How to add a powered subwoofer w/ Foreplay?
on:
December 26, 2019, 02:34:46 AM
I was hoping to add a powered sub-woofer to my system but have no idea how this would be accomplished (if at all possible) with my Foreplay pre-amp?
Please advise. Thanks. Carl

Hello Choff,
If you have a Foreplay iii there is a second pair of output jacks provided to use as a sub output.
simply plug a rca cable in and run to the powered sub rca in.
If you have a Foreplay 2 or original Foreplay get ahold of 2 rca y adaptors (1 male-2 female) and plug them into the outputs
then plug your sub into one and your speaker amp into the other.

Thank you for the feedback. I think I have the Foreplay II. So even though the y-cable would be plugged into the left or right output, I would still get both left and right channels going to the main speakers? Or do I still plug one RCA into the l left and one into the right output but just now at the new y-cable? That makes the most sense I suppose. I'm just used to a single cable to the sub that I guess sends mono single, which in this case would not work....correct? It would have to be both a left and right channel output RCA to the sub....right?

If your sub has rca inputs for left and right you send it both left and right.
If it has only one rca input you can send either left or right to it. It will not be ideal but it should work.
Most powered subs have both left and right inputs and they are summed together in the sub amp.

Carl,
I attached a simple diagram of hooking up a sub amp with either mono, stereo or high level (speaker) inputs. I like using the high level because once adjusted the pre-amp volume controls both.
Good luck,
Karl

That is to say with the speaker level inputs there is generally less need to adjust the sub amp volume once set.
