3A4 tubes
« on: June 01, 2020, 10:36:23 AM »
I picked up some NOS Mullard 3S4 and 3A4 tubes. Can the 3A4 be used in the Quickie?

Thanks, Chris.

They look to be pin compatible.  If you plug them in, a DC voltage check will give you some idea about how close they are to each other, as there aren't any triode curves that I can find for the 3A4, and I don't see enough in the datasheets to make a set easily.

I do see that the 3A4 tube will kill off the D batteries twice as quickly as the 3S4 would.

Thanks Paul. I’ll give them a try and report back. Cheers!
