Want to clean up wiring, is 22AWG for all except green twisted pair?

I want to redo some of my wiring, there's a lot of areas I melted slightly due to my inexperience.

I've been scouring the forums and it seems 22 AWG PTFE silver plated solid core copper wire would be perfect for everything except the green twisted pair, which needs 18 AWG.
Are there any other wires where a 22 AWG would not be acceptable to use?

Also, I'm interested in knowing why the twisted green pair needs a higher gauge. Simple guess would be more current runs through those connections, but I don't know how to figure that out looking at the schematic. I can try though...

So terminal 7 and 9 out of the transformer, I'm guessing there's a spec sheet on that transformer that has the details of each terminal.  I'm also guessing, they supply the same voltage and current, since there's no differentiation in the manual when you connect the twisted pairs to the tube sockets.

Anyway, just going off on a tangent here, really just wondering about the wire.
I feel like there's still too much I don't understand about circuits and electricity to ask meaningful questions about it.

It doesn't need 18 AWG, but it's also not at all in the signal path, so it's completely silly to spend any money on anything other than what we provide.

The current through the green wires is a little over 3A.  You can look at a chassis ampacity table to determine appropriate wire size.  You will find that what we provide is ridiculously over spec, but it's easier to work with than the bare bones minimum.

Yeah I'm not worried about the signal quality, more that I partially melted a lot of cables and it bothers me every time I look at them. I just want to replace them with cables that aren't melted.

Replace like for like. I'm sure Bottlehead will sell you a wiring pack to do just that. No need to buy anything else by the metre and have lots left over. With improved soldering skills all should soon look good again.

That would be great, it's been a pain in the ass trying to find the right wire on ebay.

You can e-mail replacementparts(at)bottlehead(dot)com and ask about purchasing an extra Crack wire bag.  That will be a lot easier than trying to figure out what to get on eBay!
