Hello all,

Just finished my Crack w/ Speedball and I've encountered some issues/questions in my checks.

The D2 LED does not come on.  All other LEDs are on.  The 6080 tube is on, but can barely see the glow.  12AU7 is on and bright on both sides.

My voltages seem a bit high in some locations, but I've noticed others seeing higher voltages, so not sure if that is incorrect or related to current components.

T1 - 69.8V
T2 - 208V
T3 - 0V
T4 - 209V
T5 - 67V

T6 - 0V
T7 - 113V
T8 - 0v
T9 - 125V
T10 - 0V

Small Board
OA - 71V
IA - 209V
B-A/B - 0V
IB - 209V
OB - 67V

Large Board
OA - 129V
OB - 113V
G - 0V
B+ - 207V

Any suggestions would be great.  I've added a few pics (D2 LED out).

Regards,
Nick

Was the Crack working OK prior to installing the Speedball?

Can you provide some photos of the bottom side of the big PC board?  I suspect if you reheated all of the solder joints on the big board, this issue would be resolved.

All the checks were ok on the crack prior to adding the speedball.  I did not play music through it however.  Small board checked ok and all LEDs were on, so I moved to large board.

Reheated/soldered all points on the large board and LED is still not on.

Bottom of large board pic attached.

I would reheat those joints.  If you are using lead free solder, I would recommend picking up some 60/40 leaded solder.  If you are already using 60/40 solder, you aren't applying enough heat to get the solder to flow adequately.

I was being a little light with the heat.  Reflowed the joints.  I'm using 63/37 and temp is set at 780.

The issue was actually a bad 2N2222A transistor.  I swapped them and the issue followed the transistor.  I suspected this because when I soldered the one connected to D2, I initially did it flush to the board.  Had a heck of a time getting it up off the board and was worried it got too hot.

I will order a new one and that should fix the LED issue.  Once I have my headphones, I will try with music.

Regards,
Nick
