Those that know me are familiar with the fact that I’m a huge fan of Progressive Rock. I also have passion for Jazz and Blues. A good friend loaned my his Hiromi – Alive CD a while back. He told me it was sort of an amalgam of Prog, Jazz and Jazz fusion. That was enough to get my attention so I gave it an attentive listen. I honestly wasn’t expecting much going in. Boy was I surprised. This is a super trio consisting of Hiromi Uehara on Piano, Anthony Jackson on Bass and Simon Phillips on Drums. You may recognize some of those names. If not look them up. You might be as impressed by their resume’s as I was.

After returning my friends CD I bought a 24bit 96khz download that sounds divine on my Bottlehead setup.

I'm a fan too. She has come a long way. You don't see many musicians that exuberant. See here. LOTS of other Hiromi content out there. I especially like her with Chick Corea.

Holy shoot, yeah, this is amazing.  Tidal has tons of her material.

Listening to the opening 45 secs of "Alive" reminds me of the opening to the Who's "Love Reign O'er Me" from Quadrophenia - one of my favorite rock concept albums, and one of my favorite opening passages.

Thanks for posting this.

cheers, Derek
