Somehow I did not know of Julius Sumner Miller. Brilliant. He reminds me much of my favorite physics prof when I was at Berkeley in the 70s, Fred Reif. He was another character who had a great commitment to teaching, and I still remember clearly his demos - shoot the monkey, the mouse trap chain reaction, etc. If you can't enjoy the wonder of something enough to make it fun to learn, why bother teaching it?

My favorite part about him is that he starts all his lectures by saying "...and physics is my business", which is pretty much as badass as any academic can get.

I watched him when I was a young kid. He was "The Professor" on the tv show, "The Hilarious House of Frightenstein". I was fascinated by his demonstrations.  The tv show was bonkers. It was sketch comedy for kids, but with an acid-inspired twist  -- the Wolfman psychedelic jam and the Maharishi sketches were standouts.
