I'm continuing to work on the rebirth of my Afterglows and I would like to move them onto a slightly larger chassis plate.  I'm considering various dimensions and resulting layout options.

If one were to suspend the choke under the chassis, is there an optimal position and/or least desirable position relative to the other components, especially the transformers?

The choke is not too critical, just keep it not too near the output transformer. The OPT is critical, keep its position and orientation relative to the power transformer as in the manual.

I'll just note that the further you deviate from the manual, the less we'll be able to help out.

Thanks Paul.  Understood.  I won't be deviating at all from the circuit itself, except as advised by you and PB.  In terms of physical layout, other than possibly relocating the choke under the chassis,  I only plan to move the binding posts and the fused IEC receptacle off the chassis plate.

The cathode bias resistor needs to be changed out to a higher wattage part for longevity.  Accomplishing that will require mostly a new layout.

Thanks Paul.  Yes, I have that upgraded cathode resistor on my parts list from your previous email.  When I actually have the larger components in hand I can get serious about the layout.

I am leaning towards a 20cm x 25cm chassis in portrait rather than landscape orientation.  Hence the choke would not fit in the usual above board place beside the power transformer.
