Hey everyone!    A couple questions-   I picked up a few backup 6FJ7 tubes for my SEX 3.0 kit and noticed there's 3 different types of construction. Curious if any are better than the others or is a tube a tube.  I'll throw some pictures in below.

Second Q -  I was thinking about upgrading the volume pot on my SEX.  Any recommendations? So far I was checking out the Gold Point and the Khozomo.   Which value would be best for the SEX- 50k, 100k?     For those of you who have experience with the Gold Point- I was leaning towards the V47 since I'd like a bit more adjustment down low for headphones. Has anyone done the "DIY" Gold Point build with your own resistors?

I built a Moreplay with Goldpoint attenuators. I used the 24 position for both the volume and the balance controls. If I were to do it again I would go with the 47 position unit for volume control for finer volume stepping at the low end. My volume control used preinstalled resistors, but I built my balance control using resistors I suppled. It was tedious, but easier than i had anticipated. Good soldering skill is required though. I also used Goldpoint for the selector switch. I am quite happy with how the Moreplay turned out.

Thanks for the info!  I looked at your pic and just put 2 and 2 together - wow!  You're the guy who built the SWEET custom Stereomour with the city at night landscape laser cut out!  That was seriously amazing looking!

Which value for the volume pot would you recommend on the SEX?

The bigger influence on the sound of the tube will be the plate construction, not the top mica.

The TKD potentiometer is probably the easiest one to slot into the SEX amp.

A 50K or 100K pot would work just fine.

I installed the V47 in my S.E.X. and found I had to chisel out some space in the wood base to accommodate it - no big deal really - can't tell once installed!.

I would match the stock vol pot value for the SEX. I haven't built one, so I don't know what that is. And thanks for the kind words!
