black outputs not working

Hi there,

Recently, both black outputs have stopped working.  They initially worked fine, then stopped intermittently (I could get sound by tapping on amp or fiddling with connected RCA cable but then it would go away again), and now do not work at all.  I did notice that the pins on the underside had some play in them and tried retightening the nuts.  The soldering joints seem like they are holding (picture attached) and I am at a loss.  I checked and the RCA cable is good.  Any thoughts and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  I do have a multimeter.   :)

Thanks so much.

Does this occur when using all 3 inputs?

I would start with a voltage check.  Things coming and going by tapping indicates a problematic solder joint.  There is absolutely nothing about what you've told us that indicates this is at the RCA jacks themselves, it could be anywhere in the circuit, so reheating all the joints in the preamp may be the preferred precaution.

Thanks for the responses.  I will check all three inputs and the voltages as well.  I'll let you know what I find.

Thanks, again.

I have checked all of the voltages and resistance values - they all look good.  I did notice that there is continuity between the red and black output jacks (across from each other).  Also, there is continuity between the "pin" and nut of each output jack.  Is that normal?  (That is not the case for the input jacks).

Thanks so much.

P.S.  I'll check the different inputs later tonight.

If you have the volume control turned all the way down, those resistances would be normal.
