I have put together a mockup of the top of the Smack production prototype. In this photo you can see the standard TRS stereo headphone jack mostly obscured by the 5687 tube at the front, in the same position as the S.E.X. amp. At the chassis rear behind the power transformer you will notice two XLR jacks. These will be for balanced headphone cables. There will be switches under the chassis to set the output impedance (16/32/64/128 ohms) and whether the output transformers are configured for balanced or single ended operation.

Shawn and I have started the construction of the Smack production prototype for the assembly manual today. UPS willin' and the river don't rise we should have it done for the Head-Fi meet on Saturday.

Ok, I think I got everything soldered. Time for a lunch break and then we'll see if she holds smoke.

Ah, shweet music...dead quiet with sensitive phones. Really easy to flip her over and set the impedance switches. She's ready to be broken in at tomorrow's head-fi meet.

Doc doesn't just take a snapshot of Bottlehead equipment, he makes shadowless photographs with serious lighting and exposure control.  That is why he is not posting over the weekend.

He has posted that making the photographs for the manual is his joy in making the manual.  The photographs are a huge help to folks like me who are very visual.

It's not exactly what the production version will look like, but it's very close.

I like how you guys have the impedance switches mounted on PC boards with standoffs - neat idea.

PJ designed those output impedance switching boards with the idea that they will also work in the S.E.X. 2.1 and Stereomour. When RMAF is over and things settle down a bit we will get a few upgrade kits like that that are a bit behind schedule, completed.
