I couldn't find a link to just the 3rpm story, but it should still be near the top of the news feed here:

I'm sure a cleaver bottleheader could get a turntable to play one of these properly.

I found this quote:

Oh, and EVERYONE left with a 3 RPM LP containing EVERY Blue Series single we've ever released.

The problems are to get a table to turn 3 RPM and then get an arm low compliance enough to respond to the wiggles in the grooves.

I don't think it is serious, just another technical joke.  It is their third anniversary.

In the second video, Its not playing correctly because he's obviously "not holding it correctly". (anyone else notice the apple logo on his turntable?)

Oh, I fully understand it was made as a gag gift and all.  Still, would be fun to alter a table to play it and see what you get.  Probably something like hearing sounds made 10 miles away underwater.  :)

Not really possible because of arm compliance.

Many years ago, I bought a tape that was discounted for no reason that I knew of. It was by 'Synergy',and the album/tape was titled 'chords'. Synergy was  a group that used all electronic types of music. The tape had an unusual quality to it. One that carried you deep into thought, but might depress you as well. Years later, I bought the cd. To my surprise, it didn't sound 'right'. Turns out, the entire tape was stretched! It didn't really warble that much, and considering the group that made the album, it was quite likely to have  to sound like it did!

Greg,

Synergy was Larry Fast who later played with Nektar, Peter Gabriel, and last time I saw him was touring with Jerry Marada and Tony Levin -- all three of which also used to be with Peter Gabriel..  I was a big Synergy and Larry Fast fan back then and actually got to celebrate his 30th birthday with him and the guys from Nektar when their equipment all blew up mid-concert and everybody went home but a few of us who stuck around to see if the show would go on.  Just another piece of useless music trivia :-).

I only had one Nektar album, of which I seem to remember it was about circus life.
