Just curious what you folks think of these tubes.

a bit pricey and of course they make them seem special.

Well, I shared the same amount skepticism about these tubes, and then I received as a surprise, a pair of 12AX7 tubes. I can, with no doubt, recommend them. Not going into detail, they just sound right to me. I should add, that shortly before I received these tubes, I bought a pair of 'TJ music?' 6SN7 tubes, and was pleased with them as well. Very good detail, which is primarily what I like.  The 12AX7 tubes have provided a cleaner bass.

I thought I remembered you having them, 12AT7's ?  I have a pair of RFT 12AT7's that have been excellent. Very detailed and clear as I recall.

Has anyone tried the 2A3 in a bottlehead amp?

I tried the 200b in a DRD amp I built.  They sounded very nice.

If you are going to spend the money I highly recommend going with the EML tubes

Are these more or less the same thing as the shuguang treasure black bottle tubes?  If so, I can't really recommend the 2a3 -- yes, it is nice and lush, very smooth and rich, but even after 500 hours of break-in the top end never filled in to my liking.

I second Deb's vote for the EMLs -- solid plates a bit more extended on top, mesh plates, an out of this world sound stage and layering.  Both are great, just depends on your listening preference (and/or budget).

I have been much more impressed with the psvane "preamp tubes", than their power tubes

Would you say that a pre-amp tube will have more effect than a power tube? Seems that pre-amp tubes give me more bang for the buck, unless, say, I am replacing a quad of power tubes.
