Local folks might want to come by Bottleheadquarters Saturday evening. From 7-9 Clark Blumenstein will be demonstrating a pair of speakers using the very exotic Line Magnetics 755-EX full range field coil drivers. We'll be driving them with Paramount amps, our 300B preamp prototype and Tape Project tapes. This promises to be a pretty special opportunity, as these drivers are rather rare.

By the way, the festivities start around 2 on Saturday with a Head Fi meet. Come early, hear lots of different headphone rigs, grab a beer next door at 6 and come back at 7 for the speaker demo!

I'm looking forward to how this goes and what the feedback on the speakers is seeing as I almost bought a pair of these last summer,  but got the Nagas instead.

Which, BTW are absolutely my favorite speaker to date and which I have no thoughts of parting with.

Sure wish I lived a lot closer to the PNW -- mmy audio sensibilities just seem to fit what's going on in that part of the country.

There is a 1" Studer sitting in the lobby that I do hope to use for some 2 track recording some day. There has been discussion of building some custom tube based record electronics to go with our repro (playback) electronics. We've been getting our feet wet with a sort of "semi-minimalist" recording technique with our Tode demos, using my Nagra T. Basically we record to tape, transfer to 24/192 and then pan the two channels a bit more to center to get rid of the ping pong effect.

OK, cooled down from my morning jog. Gotta get the truck loaded and get things set up for the meet.

How did the meets go?

How about the 755s? What amps did you use to drive them? I was thinking of rebuilding my Parabees for mine. Although I'd be probably be using the driver stage from my Paramounts before retrofitting the shunt start upgrade. And exo 050s Ni instead of TFA2004s. Power will be around 6.5 watts.

I'll echo Xavier -- how was the meetup, expecially the LM 755ex?

Thanks Dan!

The Doc B on display made me laugh.  Even though I saw the same pose with a buddy's PE certificate about 30 years ago.  His wife looked better with it.

Crap!  I was going to mention Voodoo Doughnuts, I liked the Bacon Doughnut best.  And there was a place outside Portland with a 10 layer burger.  I got it and ate it way, way back when I could eat that much.

BTW, I get the clock, powered by the movement of the earth, no winding ever.

Re the 755ex, the cabinets Clark built were well designed a looked beautiful. The drivers had a great midrange and lower midrange and would probably be at their best with a really nice tweeter accompanying them. We discussed how the cabinets could be great for a pair of Feastrex drivers as well.

Thanks, Doc -- that's pretty much what I figured would be the strengths of the 755x.
