I got a Hammond box in the mail today, but don't like it. I can't see how the Quickie chassis will fit without being easily dislodged, and--most importantly--there's no room to mount the batteries underneath the plate.

The Seduction base, while nice, would be a bit too big for me, though. Ideally, I would take an inch off the height of that base. That would be an option, but I don't have the tools or skills for it, and don't know anyone in the area who does.

So what other options are there? I may take a trip to a crafts store tomorrow to look for a DIY option.

Sam,

I'd take one of my unused bh bases and trim it down for you, but with everything being packed, including my tools, I'm sure it would take a whole lot longer than you want to wait.  Meaning at this point something like late october

If you want to splurge you could also ask Clark to build a bamboo one for you and just cut the ehight down a bit -- very easy to do.

I've got several old "Seduction" size bases.  I can send you one and you can get it pared down later.  The color is Honey Oak, not good for the grain and one of the reasons for changing mine.  You can sand it down pretty easily.  They all have rounded outer top edges.

Thanks, guys!

I'll take you up on your offer, Grainger. Look for my pm.  I have no experience working with wood. What should I use to sand or shave it down to the height I want?

To get 1" off of the bottom, you need a saw and something really steady to cut with.

Removing finish use #100 grit and then #180 grit, stain and lacquer.

There is no Quickie base. They sell the Seduction base for use with the Quickie, but I didn't want to go with that because it's too high for my set-up. Sawing it down had not occurred to me (I'm not too bright). Now that Grainger has suggested that, and also offered to donate an old Seduction base, well, I can't turn that down...  :)

There is no Seduction base either. We have 6" 8" 10" and 12" wood base lengths. We just put the proper combination together for a given kit. Quickie, Seduction and Crack all get two 6" pieces and two 10" pieces. S.E.X., Eros, Paramount use 2x8" and 2x10". Stereomour uses 2x10" and 2x12". Tode uses 4 x 12".

With batteries installed, how high is the Quickie, exactly? I'd like to know how much of the Seduction base to cut off.

Sam,

I should have asked, why do you want to shorten the base.  Do you have limited headroom?

Yep, that's the problem. There's only one place for it to go, and it will be tight unless I cut it down.

I've had to double up though after installing Clarity Cap MR series.  Big Caps!

I've also used my old Foreplay 2 base.

Here's what happens when you think "what if..."  A quickie with multi inputs and balance control, a headphone amp and an iPod dock.  You don't want to see underneath, it's a real mess.

So it looks like the height is the height of a D battery.
