Hi all.  I have a Rega Planar 3 turntable with an Audio-Technica AT440MLa cartridge.  I am currently putting aside money for a new cartridge, and I'm considering building the Seduction as well.  I've read a lot about the synergy between the P3 and the Dynavector 10x5, but I've noticed the output of the 10x5 is 2.5mV.  Since the Seduction in stock form only provides 36dB of gain, should I consider a cartridge with higher output to avoid S/N ratio issues?  If so, what are some recommendations?  Thanks in advance.

I had the DV 20x HO (2.8 mV) set up on my Rega P3 for a while with the C4S seduction.  It was too low output, a little noisy and mostly it was hum I couldn't get away from.  Now I have a Shure M97xE with 4 mV output, into the Eros.  The Eros has more gain, and its own signature noise, but the sound is altogether groovier/dynamic and involving.  I need to try my old DV 20x again and see if it's better paired with the Eros (it was too laid back with the seduction).

Most systems have too much gain, so a little more information - gain of your preamp and power amp, and speaker sensitivity - would help to answer the gain question. But yes, in general Seduction works best with carts around 5mV, and we recommend against anything less than 2.5mV.

Dynavector 20XL is spec'd at 0.25mV.

CMQEE-3440A is spec'd for 16 or 30X gain.

If you are using the CMQEE-3440A, then the output will be 4.0 or 7.5mV; both are very suitable for the Seduction.

And, by the way, neither step up ratio will overdrive the Seduction as PJ has posted elsewhere.
