When running a 12AU7, how hot should I expect a 6AS7G to get (using 300 Ohm headphones, in case it matters)? I'm not asking because I want to hold it and caress it, but because I modded my Crack over the weekend and want to make sure I'm not going to have it blow up and set my house on fire, so this is not an idle question. Using an infrared thermometer, I'm getting values around 90-100 degrees Celcius, but since reflective materials can give inaccurate results, I'm not sure whether I should trust those readings.

EDIT: after running my modded Crack for about an hour, the components I was worried about are still cool to the touch, so I'm not worried, but I would still like to know the answer to the above and, if anyone knows the answer, whether running a 12BH7 or E80CC (without inserting resistors in place of LEDs) would cause the 6AS7G to run hotter or cooler.

Thanks!
Adam

Hey Adam,

Looking at the 6AS7G specs, it appears the max temp it can handle is 250 Celsius. I'm not sure about your second question, sorry. Try putting the 12BH7 in and see how hot/cool the 6AS7G gets.  :P

Sorry I don't mean to hijack your thread, but you mention putting resistors in place when using the 12BH7 tube. Would these work?

Go for 1/8W and metal film, not metal oxide.
