Wire Sources

I've been trying to do a lot of google searches but just can't seem to come up with what I want. So my question to the forum is, where do you guys get your wire?

Particularly I am looking for 22 or 24 awg dual conductor, solid core, shielded wire (like the source wire in the Stereomour kit). And also 20 awg solid core hookup wire. I've found numerous sources for these products with stranded wire, but I'm really struggling to track down solid core. I know plenum CAT 5 from home improvement stores is a good source for solid core 24 awg, but I'd like something a little heavier for higher current loads in different projects.

If you can afford it, getting something with teflon insulation.  The teflon won't melt off the wire when you're soldering, which is very helpful.

Solid core shielded plenum Cat5 is great for wiring inputs!

I've been using homegrownaudio wire for over 10 years.  Both the copper and silver wires are easy to strip and manipulate and sound great.  The price of silver has skyrocketed over the last several years so it's not as cheap as it used to be but at least the copper is still reasonably priced.

I know this is probably a little late for the OP, but I found this site http://apexjr.com/ to have a bunch of options at reasonable prices. Apparently a lot of his stuff is old mil spec, and I couldn't find a better price anywhere.

gives 675 products, 425 in stock. There should be something there.

Some of the wire "navships" sells on ebay is great stuff, i can recommend the 2-3core wire with the white teflon outer layer.  I've used a lot of it for internal interconnects. I believe that stuff was intended for use in aviation, hence the paper tab inside with the spec number.  He also sells a bunch of solid core wire if that is what you prefer.

I tried using cat5 wire in the past but i found it very brittle unless you used the stranded stuff.

I don't post here very often. But I have to tell you that navship on ebay has been my sole supplier of wire for years. I have found the quality to be excellent, and prices to be very reasonable.  Just my 2 cents.
