Can I use 20awg solid, 300V, 80 degree C, as a substitute for the Carol 600V hookup wire that came with the kit from the RCA inputs to a Valab 23-step attenuator? Can't find the Carol wire locally without having to buy it by the 100 ft. roll $$$.

Thanks

Yes, there is very little voltage in that path.  Over all the voltages in the Crack don't exceed 206v +/- 15%, and that is only at terminal 21 directly off of the power tranny.  Quality wise, depends on your feelings about wire.  The Carol is good, but I used 20 gauge, mil-spec silver plated OFC with teflon for that run.

Cheers,
