Small reel to reel encased in a plastic box. AKA cassette. My brand new ESL rebuilt Nak 1000 ZXL limited edition.

Actually the drug dealer gold plating doesn't look cheesy in person.

I sold Nakamichi back when the first of the 1000 series came out.  They were the smoothest of any cassette out there.  Kind of like a Crown of Cassettes.

I saved the picture and zoomed in.  Is the Bottlehead preamp on top for the 1000 or the RTR?

Tested it yesterday. Amazingly smooth transport and a very smooth sound. It sounds nothing like transistors. I can't detect any edginess. There's a new crop of Sony metal tapes that Jeff from esl tested on this deck and excellent. $3 each. A couple of years back a metal cassete wiod cost maybe 30 times more on ebay. Apparently the only thing where cassette tapes surpassed rtr was on the formulations. Millions invested in r&d.

I'll try taping today.

I had my 700 II set up for Maxell UDXL II.  I had a boat load of it when I was using the deck.  It had a really good high frequency response.
