I've been using my Crack for 6months just fine, but earlier this week I walked back to my desk smelling something burning, and the Crack was very hot to the touch.  Yikes!

It looks like the terminal strip at points 13 and 14 are scorched where the two 250V capacitors are connected.   Neither cap appears to be bulging, but it got so hot I just want to replace everything connected to that terminal strip on suspicion.

Where can I find 6 lug terminal strips that mount properly to the Crack?  My local Fry's doesn't have anything, and I've emailed [email protected] with no reply...

You can get parts at all of the usual places...DigiKey, Mouser, Newark.  Easiest is to simply call Bottlehead HQ on Monday.  I would strongly advise troubleshooting and fixing the problem before installing new parts.

Mouser part number 158-1006. Geary is right on about troubleshooting first. Do you have a long wire lead that could be shorting out somewhere?

Stereomour => SEOS Fusion 12 Tempest

Crack => Senn HD600

13L through 15L where the 5W resistor is mounted is all burned, so it kinda seems like that resistor failed.  The resistance check at terminal 13 doesn't check out, either.   Rather than slowly climbing to 270k ohms, the reading was gradually going down.

Thanks for the hookup on the part number.   I'm resoldering everything in that area and going over it carefully to make sure I'm not missing anything else.

No matter how that 270 Ohm resistor fails, it wouldn't cause the kind of failure you're describing.

A piece of metal touching two adjacent terminals would, however, produce this kind of outcome.

Post some pictures of the power supply from different angles.  We might be able to spot a problem.
