I built a Goldpoint volume control for my stereomour.  Occasionally when I adjust the volume down, at some point one channel cuts out completely. I am suspecting this is likely a cold solder joint in one of the resistors.

Sound right? is there any other possibility?  Also, given it is intermittent, I am wondering how to isolate the resistor?

thanks for your suggestions.

Can you show us a pic or link to the unit you have as there are a few different versions, i.e. series, ladder or shunt.

Either way i would start by double checking the wiring.

That does sound quite right.  Don't isolate the resistor, just reheat all the joints.

The fact that you're saying that you lose the channel means that it's one of the resistors that's close to max volume.  If you have an intermittent connection at one of the resistors in the low range, then an intermittent connection would let full signal through.

Ok, I was able to fix the volume control.  Thanks for the help Paul.

In the process, I blew one of my JJ Tubes somehow, all I get is hum. The Sovtek works fine.  Oh well.

That is a little odd - the output tubes are well isolated from the level control.

Live and learn.  I ordered another single tube. Hope tube matching is not too critical

Electrical tube matching is very unimportant in the Stereomour.
