Is something wrong with my 5998 tube or my crack?
Probably the tube.
Did the e80cc damage the 5998 tube?
Probably not.

It was perfectly fine until I decided to put in a E80CC though.

That's just a coincidence.  There have been many, many other users running the 5998 and E80CC (even without the mods).

The 5998 was working perfectly fine for about 2 months and I've been using it often. Today, I decided to throw on the E80CC. That's too much for a coincidence.  :-[
