Without a working filament to heat the cathode, the 6082 would not be conducting.  The recommended resistance checks looked good.  The builder is already out the cost and shipping of the new tube.  He will ship the transformer back if you insist, but would rather you sent a replacement to spare the added expense.  Our strategy with a new transformer would be to check the transformer alone, then do resistance checks of the rest of the power supply before connecting it to the transformer, then check HV DC before connecting it to the rest of the circuit.  At that point, we would have a voltmeter connected to the B+ before we switched on, ready to switch off if it does not look right.

The origin of this design is a convoluted technical story pertaining to a now obsolete product, and this is not a good place to discuss it. A long evening in a good pub with lots of good beer and many many napkins to draw on might be more appropriate ...  :^)

Not insisting at all, just curious as to what happened to it so we can avoid the problem in the future. But it's not a problem if it's not sent as I consider it a pretty rare fluke to send one out that is open, about as rare as us sending out a 6082. It's unfortunate that the odds stacked up like that.

We can and will definitely send another transformer. We will double check the winding resistance before it goes out to make sure that it is to spec. Please have your friend contact us with his info at [email protected] and we will get one shipping out. Ask him to remind us to include a 6080 as well since we sent the wrong tube. I thought I had offered to send a free replacement for that, sorry if I did not. Speaking directly with the owner of the amp is sometimes a little more expedient in these matters.
