I probably would never have the question, but the case arose where as I am purchasing a set of stereo pots for my integrated amp. I couldn't find what I wanted in a 250K mono pot, so I figured to just use one gang of the stereo device. They are TDK 100K pots, and for some reason, I asked myself, "What are the possible combinations of the joining the two gangs in series or parallel?" One reason for the question came from the fact that even with the 100K mono stepped attenuators now in use, I found it to be neccessary to add 82K in series, and shunt 4.7 K to ground. Maybe you see the thinking here that started it all. Finally, I also wonder that it would be better to use a high quality resistor in series rather than the available resistance of the second gang. One teaser thought is, 'What if, both wipers were connected in such a way that the two gangs cancelled each other out?' Heh heh, umm where did I put my meds?
