Haven't had a proper workbench for years; my current is a Workmate with a 24x48 piece of particle board screwed down to it and in the spare bedroom. My big Jorgensen quick-release vise has sat on a shelf at least a decade collecting dust. When I cleaned it up today just for something to do, I found that the original handle had split and the end caps were toast.
Found a good handle at Highland for $17 shipped but I'm cheap. Instead, I bought a 1" oak dowel at Lowes and bored each end for some 3/16 brass rod I had. Five bucks. The cut is obviously a little off which I'm blaming on using a hand saw and having cataracts
