This audiophile stuff is so confusing. I am a total skeptic about most of the tweaks that are discussed online and believe there is a lot of voodoo and hype. I researched tube dampers. Tube Dampers make some sense to me because of the physical properties of tubes. Of course, the research was all over the place, with some making wild claims about improvements and others debunking them. I also don't play music at very high levels (considering I have 3 watts and 91 db speakers) It is a smallish room though.
I decided to buy some inexpensive teflon coated o-rings and try them out (which some reports said worked and others said were useless). The difference was immediate and not very subtle. I won't go into all of the audiophile jargon, but I will say it opened everything up in a pretty dramatic way. Was it the dampers? or some coincidence, maybe my new caps suddenly broke in or that the tubes made a better connection after re-inserting them.
The only issue is the o-rings tend to slip down the JJ-2a3's due to the shape. I may try something more elegant like the Herbies. It is just so interesting how this stuff works. If it is placebo, it was worth the extra couple of bucks.
Anyone have positive feedback on Herbies or other options.
