I'm curious as to the advantages/disadvantages of the DC filament supply evolution from the Paramount with filament chokes to the current design used in the Kaiju. Other than the obvious space savings, what else sets them apart?

Thanks!

The Kaiju supply is regulated, which offers a tremendous advantage with all the wacky "300B's" floating around these days, and the upgraded power transformer in the Kaiju allows us to use this technology without worrying about unusual power line voltages.  We have also switched to a more efficient diode for this purpose that will provide improved durability.

Both filament supplies have filament chokes.

The voltage is regulated I'm assuming as the current draws for 300B's seem to very by the tube? Is the new supply quieter than the old style and if so, have you measured by how much? I read in a post that it should give -15dB of hum, is that correct?

Again just curious. The old supply was simple and worked very well and I'm trying to wrap my head around the advantages of the new supply.

Thanks,

Aaron

The voltage is regulated in the Kaiju DC supply but not the Paramount DC supply.

The new supply in conjunction with changes in the amplifier circuit itself overall lead to a quieter design.  The -15dB figure was my estimate of going from AC to DC filaments on a Kaiju.

The old supply was not compatible with a lot of the oddball 300B's that have come out since we introduced the Paramount.  It was also not as quiet.
