Hi,

I am the (very-very) happy and proud owner of a SEX purchased as a kit here in 2006.

I am sad tough because when I turn the volume up there is a sound like an "electric scratch" coming through the right side, both using headphones or the speakers. The noise does not change in intensity as I turn the knob.

A visual inspection shows no disconnect or bad soldering (though I have not touched it since the iron upgrade from 2007 or 2008).

Now, would I be right to suspect that the issues is with the dual 100 k potentiometer? Or could there be another issue?

Thank you in advance for your help!

You may want to try swapping the tubes and see if the sound changes to the other channel.

No change. Actually, it seems that the noise isn emitted through both channels, and only when I turn the knob. I guess the pot is dead.

With the amp off you may want to try rapidly turning the knob in question back and forth to both ends. Somethings those carbon pots need a little cleaning to quiet down.

It's an old trick with carbon pots. Do it every few months to keep the contacts fresh. Enjoy!
