Hello,

I need a transformer for my Foreplay II. What are my options, does Hammond or Allied make one? If so what is the product #?

Thank you,

Cary Chin

Allied Electronics  model 6K27VF is an exact replacement.
TRANSFORMER, PRI:110-120V, 60HZ, 125VCT@15DCMA, 6.3V @.6a

Allied Electronics  model 6K1VF is an "upgraded current" replacement.  May allow for some tube rolling variations not possible with the  original.
TRANSFORMER, PRI: 110-120V: 60HZ, 250VCT@25DCMA, 6.3V @1.0A

Are you sure? The secondary voltages are different, 125VCT vs. 250VCT

Yes, the 6K1VF will give more B+ and filament current to work with so you try tubes such as the 12BH7.

The Foreplay has a long history; hopefully the following will help clarify some parts:

Foreplay I used a 12.6vAC heater supply, and a 125v HV winding with a full-wave bridge rectifier (four diodes).

Foreplay II used a 6.3vAC heater winding, and a 125v HV winding with a full-wave bridge rectifier (four diodes).

Seduction used the PT-1, which was also used by some eXperimenters to upgrade their Foreplays. That transformer has a 6.3vDC heater supply, and a 250vCT HV winding, using a full-wave CT rectifier (two diodes).

Foreplay III used the PT-3 with a 6.3vDC heater supply and dual, paralleled 160v HV windings, which used a voltage doubler to obtain a high voltage which was regulated to 150v with a gas regulator (0D3).

Extended Foreplay used the PT-3 with 6.3vDC heater supply, and the dual 160v windings fed dual-mono fullwave bridge rectifiers (four diodes per channel).
