Hi

Got my Eros 2 on the way. Wondering what cap I should consider to replace the following:
- 0.1 if 400 V film capacitors
- 1.5 if 630 V capacitors

I heard V caps and Mundorf can be very good. Any experience with those and what model/series is recommended ?

There's a good amount of space for different caps in the 1.5uF/630V position.  You can nudge that value down to 1uF if the capacitor sizes are more reasonable, and a 400V rating is plenty.

The 0.1uF/400V caps mount to a PC board without a ton of extra space.  Consequently we provide a nice film and foil capacitor for this position with the kit.

Hi Paul,

Thanks for the reply.

I can get at a reasonable price from somebody I know a pair of Mundorf silver/oil supreme 1000v.

Do you think that would be a nice upgrade or a waste for the capacitor being used in the Eros section?

When you buy a 1000V cap, it will be huge.  The same cap in a 400V size will be significantly smaller and weigh less.   Having said that, I think you'll be able to fit those into the kit, but please use an adhesive wire tie anchor and a zip tie to hold the weight of the caps so the leads don't break off.

I'll suggest screwing the adhesive wire tie anchor to whatever it is attached to. They usually have a hole in the center for that purpose. The heat in the amp can cause the adhesive to let go over time. I've picked up many an amp with dangling caps - not pretty.
